Handleiding Crios Ballistics

Ballistische rekenhulp en DOPE-board voor PRS, NRL Hunter en long-range sportschieten.

Snel starten

1. Profiel: tik bovenaan op het profiel en maak een nieuw profiel (patroon uit de bibliotheek of je eigen gegevens).
2. Range Card: op RANGE staat je hele kaart. Tik een afstand aan om hem op de Target Card te zetten.
3. Weer: op WEER haal je het weer op of typ je de waarden van je Kestrel in.
4. Schieten: op TARGET en HUD lees je elevatie en wind af, met grote cijfers.

De app werkt grotendeels offline en is gemaakt voor de telefoon in een armband, in portretstand.

Profiel

Tik bovenaan op het profielvak. Onder Wapenprofielen maak je met Nieuw profiel een profiel aan:

• Patroon (bibliotheek): kies een fabriekspatroon; kogelgewicht, BC en V0 worden ingevuld. Meet je V0 altijd zelf met een chronograaf.
• Eigen gegevens: V0, BC (G1 of G7), zero-afstand, hoogte van de kijker boven de loop, twist en kaliber.
• Truing: klopt de kaart op afstand niet, pas dan V0 of de drag aan met een gemeten elevatie (zoals Cal MV / Cal DSF op een Kestrel).
• CSV importeren: plak of kies een range card (CSV) uit Applied Ballistics Quantum, of deel de CSV vanuit Quantum direct naar de app.

Range Card

RANGE toont per afstand de elevatie (U/D in mil) en de wind voor je ingestelde wind. Stel bovenaan het interval en het bereik in. Tik een afstand om hem op de Target Card te zetten; nog eens tikken haalt hem weg.

Telefoon liggend: je krijgt extra kolommen: altijd WND 2 en twee kolommen die je zelf kiest. Tik op een kolomkop met ⇄ om te wisselen tussen SPIN, AJ, TOF, snelheid (V) en energie (E).

Target Card

TARGET toont je gekozen doelen met elevatie en drie windwaarden: WND− (minimale wind), WND (Wind 1) en WND+ (maximale wind). Bij Kies kaart kies je welke kaart je ziet. Een kaart die je op de Kaart hebt gemaakt (Kaart 1, 2 …) verwijder je met Verwijder kaart (twee keer tikken). Met Wis doelen op de Kaart wis je alle kaartdoelen en alle kaarten tegelijk. De keuzes staan onder oranje koppen:

• Target Card: de afstanden die je op RANGE hebt aangetikt.
• Kaart: Kaartdoelen (live), die meebewegen met je GPS-positie, en Kaart 1, Kaart 2 … met datum en tijd. Die maak je op de Kaart met Maak Target Card.
• Stages: Stage 1, Stage 2 … uit de Stagebuilder.

Alleen kaarten met doelen worden getoond. Liggend komt er een extra kolom bij die je met ⇄ kiest.

HUD

De HUD laat één afstand groot zien: elevatie, Wind 1 en Wind 2 (vlaag). Verander de afstand met −25, −5, +5 en +25. Stel de wind in met de windroos (klokuur) en de snelheid. Met de hellingshoek rekent de app schuin omhoog of omlaag schieten mee.

Raakkans

Onderaan de HUD staat het tegeltje Raakkans: de geschatte kans dat je eerste schot raak is op de afstand van de HUD. Tik erop om het uit te klappen. Het percentage blijft bovenaan staan terwijl je scrolt, en verandert meteen als je een instelling aanpast.

• Wat kost het meest: welk deel van de onzekerheid je de meeste raakkans kost: wind, windrichting, afstand, V0, kogelbaan of groepering.
• Windonzekerheid: kies Rustig (± 0,5 m/s), Wisselend (± 1 m/s), Vlagerig (± 2 m/s) of vul zelf een waarde in. Heb je WND− en WND+ ingesteld, dan gebruikt de app die. Komt de wind uit een weermodel, dan rekent de app met 50 % extra onzekerheid; met een eigen meting (bijvoorbeeld je Kestrel) is je raakkans dus hoger.
• Doel: breedte, hoogte en vorm (rechthoek, rond of IPSC).
• Wapen en schutter: groepering in MOA, houding, hoe je de afstand bepaalt en de V0-spreiding (0 = uit de Chronograaf).
• Kogelbaan gecontroleerd op afstand: zet op Ja als je je profiel op lange afstand hebt gecontroleerd. Dan rekent de app met minder onzekerheid in de kogelbaan.

De app rekent met 800 virtuele schoten. Het V0-effect berekent hij met de solver, en de onzekerheid in de kogelbaan wordt groter zodra de kogel transsoon wordt. Het blijft een schatting: gebruik het om te kiezen wat je eerst verbetert, niet als garantie. Liggend vind je in de Target Card per doel de kolom RAAK % (tik op de kolomkop ⇄).

Correctie (mil-raster)

• Solo: zo werkt de HUD standaard. Onderaan de HUD staat Correctie (mil-raster). Tik in het raster aan waar de inslag zat (het midden is je richtpunt); de app geeft de correctie in mil of MOA. Het raster toont je doel op ware grootte voor de afstand op de HUD, met de vorm en maat die je bij Raakkans instelt, en zegt bij elke inslag Treffer of Mis. Met de pijltjes verschuif je de inslag per 0,1 mil (of 0,25 MOA), met ±2/±5 kies je de schaal en met Spreek uit zegt de telefoon de correctie hardop.
• Schutter en spotter koppelen: twee telefoons rechtstreeks met elkaar verbinden komt in een volgende versie van de app.

Weer en wind

• Haal weer op: temperatuur, luchtdruk, luchtvochtigheid en wind voor je locatie, van de dienst die je zelf kiest bij Bron: MET Norway (wereldwijd, gratis), NWS (alleen VS, gratis), Open-Meteo, OpenWeather of Windy (alle drie met je eigen sleutel; Windy haalt zonder Open-Meteo-sleutel temperatuur, druk en vocht bij MET Norway). Standaard staat Bron op MET Norway. Kies Handmatig als je de waarden van je Kestrel intypt of koppelt. Jouw meting gaat altijd voor.
• Grenzen: de app accepteert alleen waarden die echt kunnen: temperatuur −50 tot 60 °C, luchtdruk 300 tot 1100 hPa, luchtvochtigheid 0 tot 100 %, wind tot 50 m/s. Typ je iets daarbuiten, dan zet de app het op de grens en krijg je een melding. Hetzelfde geldt in het profiel (bijvoorbeeld zero 10 tot 1500 m, V0 100 tot 1600 m/s). Kan de solver een profiel niet doorrekenen, dan blijft de vorige waarde staan. Ook de rekenhulpen onder Gereedschap (zoals Technieken en Wind) hebben grenzen, bijvoorbeeld afstanden tot 3000 m. De melding verschijnt onderin beeld, op de pagina waar je bent.
• Opslag vol: is de opslag op je telefoon vol, dan meldt de app dat je laatste wijziging niet bewaard is. Verwijder oude profielen, stages of kaartdoelen, of bewaar je gegevens met Exporteren onder Data.
• Kestrel koppelen: bovenaan WEER staat het blok Kestrel. Zet Bluetooth aan op je telefoon en op de Kestrel en tik op Koppel Kestrel; kies je Kestrel in de lijst (een 5700 heet bijvoorbeeld ELITE met het serienummer). Werkt met de Kestrel 5000-serie, waaronder de 5700, op Android en in Chrome of Edge op een computer (nog niet op iPhone).
• Live weer: staat Live weer AAN, dan komen temperatuur, luchtdruk (stationsdruk) en luchtvochtigheid automatisch van de Kestrel en rekent je kaart direct mee. Pas je zelf een van deze waarden aan, dan zet de app Live weer uit: jouw invoer gaat voor. Met de knop zet je het weer aan.
• Neem wind: houd de Kestrel zoals je op de Kestrel zelf de windrichting neemt, wacht tot de wind stabiel is en tik op Neem wind. Windsnelheid en windrichting worden overgenomen en de windklok wordt opnieuw bepaald ten opzichte van je schietrichting. Deze wind is gemeten, dus hij wordt niet omgerekend naar schiethoogte en telt in de Raakkans als gemeten wind.
• Neem schietrichting: richt de Kestrel op het doel zoals je op de Kestrel zelf de schietrichting neemt en tik op Neem schietrichting. Heeft de Kestrel geen declinatie ingesteld, dan is de richting magnetisch; de app meldt dat. Stel voor de ware richting de declinatie in op de Kestrel.
• Verbinding kwijt: de laatste waarden blijven staan en de app probeert een paar keer zelf opnieuw te verbinden. Lukt verbinden niet, controleer dan of Bluetooth op de Kestrel aanstaat en of Privacy Mode (pincode) uitstaat.
• Wind op schiethoogte: een weermodel geeft de wind op 10 m. Heb je de wind zelf ingevuld of van de Kestrel overgenomen, dan zie je de modelwind op 10 m ernaast ter vergelijking. Kies je schiethoogte (liggend, knielend, staand) en het terrein; de app rekent de wind om. Dit is een grove schatting.
• Terrein uit kaart: zet je dit aan, dan bepaalt de app in Nederland bij Haal weer op zelf het terrein langs de kogelbaan (tot 5 kaartdoelen) en bovenwinds. Met Nu bijwerken doe je het opnieuw.
• Wind langs de kogelbaan: rekent mee dat de kogel onderweg hoger vliegt dan jij ligt. Standaard uit; vergelijk eerst met je eigen ervaring.

Gereedschap (MEER)

• RET: Rapid Engagement Techniques: MaxPBR, Speeddrop, 12/20 inch drill (Gun Number), Advanced RET, Battlesight Zero en de 3-6-12 methode, steeds met uitleg en de waarden voor jouw profiel.
• WIND: Quick Wind Number, windcall, brackets en lead voor movers. Onder de Wind bracket tabel staat Delen of afdrukken.
• Trainer: een kijker-simulator en snelle drills op tijd. Je beste tijden worden bewaard (vanaf 80% raak).
• Stagebuilder: stages met meerdere doelen en eigen wind per doel. Stages zijn altijd genummerd (Stage 1, 2, 3 …) en lopen op volgorde, ook als je er een verwijdert. Je kunt een stage een eigen naam geven, bijvoorbeeld Barricade; het nummer blijft staan.
• Kaart: tik doelen aan op de kaart voor afstand, richting en hoogteverschil. Het doel dat je aantikt wordt meteen je schietrichting (12 uur), zodat de windklok klopt met de windrichting uit het weer. Onder de kaart en bij WEER zie je de schietrichting staan. Kies je eigen positie met GPS, of Zelf kiezen (tik op de kaart of voer een grid in) om vooraf een Target Card te bouwen. Bij Zelf kiezen staat de GPS uit, en het weer gebruikt dan ook je gekozen positie. Bij Mijn hoogte kies je Op de grond, Boven de grond (bijvoorbeeld in een gebouw: reken ongeveer 3 m per verdieping) of GPS-hoogte (tik eerst op straatniveau op Nu op de grond; GPS-hoogte is binnen vaak onnauwkeurig). In Nederland toont de app ook hoe hoog het gebouw op je plek is. Ligt een doel hoger, bijvoorbeeld een raam in een gebouw, stel dan bij dat doel onder de kaart in hoe hoog het boven de grond ligt met − 3 m en + 3 m (ongeveer één verdieping per stap). Staat je positie op een gebouw of bij water, dan zoekt de app de dichtstbijzijnde gemeten grond. Doelen tellen mee vanaf 1 m. Met Maak Target Card bewaar je de kaartdoelen als Kaart 1, Kaart 2 … (met datum en tijd). Wis doelen wist de kaartdoelen én deze kaarten. Met de knop met twee pijltjes zet je de windstreepjes aan: ze drijven met de wind mee, en de kleur laat het terreineffect zien (blauw minder wind, groen gelijk, oranje en rood meer).
• Onderhoud: rondentelling en reinigen per wapen.
• Delen en afdrukken: kies bij Inhoud dezelfde kaarten als bij Kies kaart (Target Card, Kaart, Stages) of een tabel (RANGE-lijst, Wind bracket tabel). Target Cards en stages worden liggend gemaakt, met de extra kolom. Daarna kies je Opslaan of delen of Afdrukken.
• Chronograaf: V0, SD en ES; ook door een foto van je chronograaf te laten lezen.

Diensten

De app gebruikt geen eigen abonnementen. Jij kiest welke diensten je gebruikt, en de voorwaarden van die dienst gelden voor jou. Sleutels en adressen blijven alleen op je toestel. Zonder diensten werkt alles met je eigen invoer.

• Weer: kies de bron op de pagina WEER (zie hierboven).
• Kaart: Automatisch toont gratis overheidsluchtfoto’s in Nederland (PDOK) en de VS (USGS). Elders vul je bij Instellingen → Diensten een eigen kaartbron in: het tegeladres van een luchtfoto uit jouw land, met {z}, {x} en {y} (of {-y}). Veel landen bieden zo’n open luchtfoto aan via hun kadaster of geografische dienst; zoek op “orthofoto WMTS” of “aerial imagery XYZ tiles” met de naam van je land. Controleer zelf of je de bron mag gebruiken. OpenStreetMap kun je altijd kiezen; heb je een eigen sleutel bij een OpenStreetMap-dienst (zoals MapTiler, Thunderforest of Stadia), vul dan hun tegeladres met je sleutel in bij Instellingen → Diensten. Satelliet (Esri) werkt met je eigen ArcGIS Location Platform-sleutel. De Diensten staan onderaan Instellingen.
• Hoogtes: Automatisch haalt de hoogte gratis uit AHN (Nederland) en USGS (VS). Elders kies je Open-Meteo (met je eigen sleutel), of vul je de hoek zelf in op de HUD.

Instellingen

Via het tandwiel: Weergave (Donker, Licht voor fel zonlicht, Nacht in rood voor je nachtzicht, of Automatisch), taal (Nederlands, Engels, Duits, Frans), eenheden (meter of yards, mil of MOA en meer), spin drift en aerodynamic jump aan of uit, en Gegevens: maak een back-up met Exporteren en zet hem terug met Importeren. Onderaan staan de versie, Wat is er nieuw en het privacybeleid.

Crios Ballistics is een hulpmiddel. Controleer je gegevens altijd op de baan en volg de veiligheidsregels van je vereniging of baan.

Quick start

1. Profile: tap the profile at the top and create a new profile (a load from the library or your own data).
2. Range Card: RANGE shows your whole card. Tap a range to put it on the Target Card.
3. Weather: on WEATHER, fetch the weather or type in your Kestrel values.
4. Shoot: read elevation and wind on TARGET and HUD, in large numbers.

Profile

Tap the profile box at the top. Under Rifle profiles, New profile creates a profile from a factory load in the library or your own data (V0, BC G1/G7, zero, sight height, twist, calibre). Use Truing to adjust V0 or drag with a measured elevation. Import a CSV range card from Applied Ballistics Quantum by pasting it, choosing the file, or sharing it from Quantum to the app.

Range Card

RANGE lists elevation (U/D in mil) and wind per range. Tap a range to add it to the Target Card; tap again to remove it. In landscape you get WND 2 and two columns you choose with ⇄ (SPIN, AJ, TOF, velocity, energy).

Target Card

TARGET shows your chosen targets with elevation and three wind values: WND− (minimum), WND (Wind 1) and WND+ (maximum). Delete a map card (Map 1, 2 …) with Delete card (tap twice); Clear targets on the Map clears all map targets and map cards at once. Under Choose card the options are grouped under orange headers: Target Card (the ranges you tapped on RANGE), Map (Map targets live, and Map 1, 2 … with date and time, made with Make Target Card on the Map) and Stages (Stage 1, 2 … from the Stage builder). Only cards with targets are shown.

HUD

One range in large numbers: elevation, Wind 1 and Wind 2 (gust). Change the range with −25, −5, +5, +25; set the wind with the clock rose and speed. The incline is taken into account.

Hit chance

At the bottom of the HUD is the Hit chance tile: the estimated chance that your first round hits at the HUD range. Tap it to expand. The percentage stays at the top while you scroll and changes straight away when you adjust a setting.

• What costs the most: which part of the uncertainty costs you the most hit chance: wind, wind direction, range, MV, trajectory or group.
• Wind uncertainty: choose Calm (± 0.5 m/s), Variable (± 1 m/s), Gusty (± 2 m/s) or enter your own value. If you have set WND− and WND+, the app uses those. If the wind comes from a weather model, the app adds 50 % uncertainty; with your own measurement (for example your Kestrel) your hit chance is higher.
• Target: width, height and shape (rectangle, round or IPSC).
• Rifle and shooter: group in MOA, position, how you measure the range and the MV spread (0 = from the Chronograph).
• Trajectory checked at distance: set to Yes if you have checked your profile at long range. The app then uses less trajectory uncertainty.

The app simulates 800 virtual shots. The MV effect is calculated with the solver, and the trajectory uncertainty grows once the bullet goes transonic. It is an estimate: use it to decide what to improve first, not as a guarantee. In landscape, the Target Card shows a HIT % column per target (tap the column header ⇄).

Correction (mil grid)

• Solo: this is how the HUD works by default. At the bottom of the HUD is Correction (mil grid). Tap the grid where the impact was (the centre is your aiming point); the app gives the correction in mil or MOA. The grid shows your target at true size for the range on the HUD, with the shape and size you set under Hit chance, and says Hit or Miss for every impact. The arrows move the impact by 0.1 mil (or 0.25 MOA), ±2/±5 sets the scale and Speak reads the correction aloud.
• Linking shooter and spotter: connecting two phones directly comes in a future version of the app.

Weather and wind

• Get weather: temperature, pressure, humidity and wind for your location, or type in your Kestrel values; your own measurement always wins.
• Connect Kestrel: at the top of WEATHER is the Kestrel block. Turn on Bluetooth on your phone and on the Kestrel and tap Connect Kestrel; pick your Kestrel from the list (a 5700 shows up as, for example, ELITE with its serial number). Works with the Kestrel 5000 series, including the 5700, on Android and in Chrome or Edge on a computer (not on iPhone yet).
• Live weather: with Live weather ON, temperature, pressure (station pressure) and humidity come from the Kestrel automatically and your card is recalculated right away. If you change one of these values yourself, the app turns Live weather off: your input wins. Use the button to turn it back on.
• Take wind: hold the Kestrel the way you take wind direction on the Kestrel itself, wait until the wind is steady and tap Take wind. Wind speed and direction are taken over and the wind clock is set relative to your direction of fire. This wind is measured, so it is not converted to shooting height and counts as measured wind in Hit chance.
• Take direction of fire: point the Kestrel at the target the way you take direction of fire on the Kestrel itself and tap Take direction of fire. If no declination is set on the Kestrel, the direction is magnetic; the app tells you. Set the declination on the Kestrel for the true direction.
• Connection lost: the last values stay and the app tries to reconnect a few times. If connecting fails, check that Bluetooth is on in the Kestrel and that Privacy Mode (PIN) is off.
• Wind at shooting height: converts the model wind (10 m) to your shooting height and terrain. A rough estimate. If you entered the wind yourself or took it from the Kestrel, the model wind at 10 m is shown next to it for comparison.
• Limits: the app only accepts values that are physically possible: temperature −50 to 60 °C, pressure 300 to 1100 hPa, humidity 0 to 100 %, wind up to 50 m/s. If you type something outside that range, the app sets it to the limit and shows a message. The same applies in the profile (for example zero 10 to 1500 m, MV 100 to 1600 m/s). If the solver cannot calculate a profile, the previous value stays. The calculators under Tools (such as Techniques and Wind) also have limits, for example ranges up to 3000 m. The message appears at the bottom of the screen, on the page you are on.
• Storage full: if your phone's storage is full, the app tells you that your latest change was not saved. Delete old profiles, stages or map targets, or back up your data with Export under Data.
• Terrain from map: when on, Get weather sets the terrain along the bullet path (up to 5 map targets) and upwind (Netherlands only).
• Wind along the bullet path: accounts for the bullet flying higher than you lie. Off by default.

Tools (MORE)

RET (MaxPBR, Speeddrop, 12/20 inch drill, Advanced RET, Battlesight Zero, 3-6-12), WIND (QWN, wind call, brackets, movers; share or print the bracket table), Trainer (scope simulator and timed drills), Stage builder (stages are always numbered in order; you can only add your own name), Map (targets, range, bearing; the target you tap becomes your direction of fire, so the wind clock matches the weather wind direction; own position by GPS or chosen, moving wind streaks coloured by terrain effect, Make Target Card; Clear targets also clears the map cards), Maintenance, Share and print (the same cards as Choose card, plus the RANGE list and Wind bracket table; Target Cards and stages in landscape with the extra column; save, share or print), Chronograph (also from a photo).

Services

The app uses no subscriptions of its own. You choose which services you use, and their terms apply to you. Keys and addresses stay on your device. Without services everything works with your own input. Weather: choose the source on WEATHER: MET Norway (worldwide, free, the default), NWS (US only, free), Open-Meteo, OpenWeather or Windy (all three with your own key; without an Open-Meteo key, Windy takes temperature, pressure and humidity from MET Norway), or Manual (Kestrel). Map: Automatic shows free government imagery in the Netherlands (PDOK) and the US (USGS); elsewhere enter your own map source (a tile address with {z}, {x} and {y}) under Settings → Services, or use your own Esri key. OpenStreetMap can always be chosen; with your own key for an OpenStreetMap service, enter their address under Settings → Services (at the bottom of Settings). With Choose myself on the Map the GPS is off. Under My height choose On the ground, Above ground (in a building, count about 3 m per floor) or GPS height (tap I’m on the ground now at street level first; GPS height is often inaccurate indoors). For a target above the ground, such as a window, set its height under the map with − 3 m / + 3 m (about one floor per step). Heights: Automatic uses AHN (NL) and USGS (US); elsewhere choose Open-Meteo (with your own key) or enter the angle on the HUD.

Settings

Display (Dark, Light, Night in red, Automatic), language, units, spin drift and aerodynamic jump, and Data: back up with Export and restore with Import. At the bottom: version, What’s new and the privacy policy.

Crios Ballistics is an aid. Always verify your data on the range and follow the safety rules of your club or range.
